Anniversary Weekend

This past Sunday was our one year anniversary, so we decided to celebrate all weekend with a trip to Nashville.  We went down on Friday and stayed at the Marriott right across from the Parthenon.  Our room had a really nice view of the Parthenon and Centennial Park.

On Saturday, we got up and headed to the Nashville Zoo.  I had never been, and Chad hadn’t been in a few years.  It was a pretty warm day, but it wasn’t too hot to walk around and check out all the animals.

My favorite part was the Lorikeet exhibit.  Lorikeets are a kind of parrot.  They were in a free-flying exhibit, so you are warned that they might land on you.  I bought a cup of nectar for $1 to feed them, and was able to get a lorikeet to come and drink from my cup right away.  Later, I stuck out my arm and waited.  After about a minute or so, a lorikeet landed on my hand and drank the nectar from the cup.  It was pretty neat.

After the zoo, we went to the Parthenon because I had never been there before.  It is a replica of the original Parthenon in Athens.  We took a quick little self-guided tour before heading back to the hotel.  It looked like they were going to have a wedding or some event there that evening because they were already setting up.

That evening, we had a reservation at the Melting Pot.  Once again, I had never been there.  It was a neat experience as we cooked our own food in a fondue pot.  We had a four course meal of cheese fondue, a salad, an arrangement of meats, and chocolate fondue.  I have to admit that my favorite part was the dessert.  We got milk chocolate to dip strawberries, rice krispy treats, brownies, cheesecake, bananas, pound cake, and marshmallows.  Yum!  It was fantastic!  I wasn’t overly impressed with the rest of the dinner, but the dessert was fantastic.  I definitely want to go back.

The  next day was our actual anniversary day.  More to come on that later…

Fan of Glee

So, it’s official… Glee is my new favorite show!  The premiere was tonight, and although I had seen most of the scenes in the previews, I still thoroughly enjoyed it.  It’s pretty funny, and I just love a show that I can sing along with.

Just wanted to also mention that I am also a fan of Kris Allen (American Idol finalist).  I don’t think either he or Adam did a super stand-out performance, but I’ve been growing more and more fond of Kris throughout the season.  He is very talented, and I don’t think I would enjoy any album that Adam put out.  So, as I was waiting for Glee to begin I repeatedly texted my vote for Kris Allen.  I looked later and counted 14 votes in all.  I hope it helps!

Speaking of being a fan… I enjoyed tonight’s TV viewing under the gentle breeze of our lovely new ceiling fan.  My wonderful hubby put it up for us.  It was a lot of work for him, seeing as he is not an electrician, and I’m not a lot of help.  We’ve never really loved the fan that was in the living room when we moved in, and after living here for a year, we finally decided to replace it.  We updated it with a darker and perhaps more modern fan.  I like it a lot.  I think it looks fantastic, so thank you very much, handy hubby!  We were going to move the old fan into the office, but that probably won’t happen now.  Does anybody need a fan?

Teacher Appreciation Week

This week was teacher appreciation week, and although I expected the usual food from parents and a fern from the school, I didn’t really expect anything from any students.  I received a couple hand-made cards, which were cute, but check out this gift set from a girl in my homeroom.  I’ve never seen anything like it.  I thought the gesture was very nice and found it very funny that something like this was ever created.

Well, I just thought I would share that with you before I eat dinner out of my “soup-er teacher” soup bowl and go pamper myself with “greatest teacher shower gel” and “A+ teacher body souffle.”

Hot Rods Game

Wow!  Two posts in one day.  Can you tell school is almost over?

Tonight I went to my first Bowling Green Hot Rods game.  The Hot Rods are the new minor league baseball team that just started their season last week.  My friend, Kristine, chose the name for the team and was given season tickets.  She was kind enough to invite me along to this game against West Virginia Power (which the Hot Rods won by the way).  It was a great night and a lot of fun, and the weather was perfect.  The stadium was really nice and clean.  They, of course, had a lot going on throughout the game, like sumo wrestling and the smile cam, which made it really entertaining.  I think they should add the kiss cam to the list of activities, but it didn’t matter tonight since Chad wasn’t there.  It’s kind of neat to have something like this so close to home.  I will definitely go again.  Thanks Kristine for winning the tickets and for inviting me to go!  It was fun!

DivaDo!

There is that girl again… you know, the one from the America’s Best commercial that looks like me.

Check out the video.

Go Ladycats!

We haven’t written much in a while. I don’t think there has been too much exciting stuff going on, so I thought I’d mention something. Last night we went to Diddle Arena to watch the Franklin Simpson Ladycats play in the regional finals. They did a great job against Barren County, winning 55 to 24. It’s neat to see some of these girls because I taught a few of them my first year teaching. Although the game was not very exciting, the news that followed was: Franklin Simpson schools will be closed on Wednesday to allow everyone to go to the game. Woo hoo! The game is at Diddle, and I will be there. Yay day off!

Our American Idol Favorite

Our favorite contestant on American Idol this season is Danny Gokey. He is really good and seems like a nice guy. We really liked his best friend, Jamar, too, but were shocked when they didn’t send him through to be on the show. It was ridiculous! Nevertheless, Danny is still in it, and hopefully when he wins he will have Jamar open for him.
Vote Danny!

He who loves his wife loves himself

This is a shout-out to the best husband in the world!  I had planned on doing some homework for my online math class today while I was off of school.  Then, I was sent a reminder that it was due at 8:00 am this morning.

I stayed up REALLY late last night finishing it up.   Well, this morning, my wonderful hubby got up a little earlier and scanned all 21 pages of my assignment in for me so that I could upload it by 8:00.  He is so great, and he was able to help me with a few problems last night because he is super smart.   I’m so blessed!

Chad really demonstrates the kind of love described in Ephesians 5:8. “Husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.”
