I love Conan. This stuff with NBC is depressing. (*edit – When I say depressing, I don’t mean on any sort of real scale. The guy is still worth millions and could never work again in his life. It is depressing in the way that he seems like a genuinely nice guy who really wanted that job as it was intended.)
His statement he made yesterday is below.
People of Earth:
In the last few days, I’ve been getting a lot of sympathy calls, and I want to start by making it clear that no one should waste a second feeling sorry for me. For 17 years, I’ve been getting paid to do what I love most and, in a world with real problems, I’ve been absurdly lucky. That said, I’ve been suddenly put in a very public predicament and my bosses are demanding an immediate decision.
Six years ago, I signed a contract with NBC to take over “The Tonight Show” in June of 2009. Like a lot of us, I grew up watching Johnny Carson every night and the chance to one day sit in that chair has meant everything to me. I worked long and hard to get that opportunity, passed up far more lucrative offers, and since 2004, I have spent literally hundreds of hours thinking of ways to extend the franchise long into the future. It was my mistaken belief that, like my predecessor, I would have the benefit of some time and, just as important, some degree of ratings support from the prime-time schedule. Building a lasting audience at 11:30 is impossible without both.
But sadly, we were never given that chance. After only seven months, with my “Tonight Show” in its infancy, NBC has decided to react to their terrible difficulties in prime time by making a change in their long-established late night schedule.
Last Thursday, NBC executives told me they intended to move the “Tonight Show” to 12:05 to accommodate the “Jay Leno Show” at 11:35. For 60 years, the “Tonight Show” has aired immediately following the late local news. I sincerely believe that delaying the “Tonight Show” into the next day to accommodate another comedy program will seriously damage what I consider to be the greatest franchise in the history of broadcasting. The “Tonight Show” at 12:05 simply isn’t the “Tonight Show.” Also, if I accept this move I will be knocking the “Late Night” show, which I inherited from David Letterman and passed on to Jimmy Fallon, out of its long-held time slot. That would hurt the other NBC franchise that I love, and it would be unfair to Jimmy.
So it has come to this: I cannot express in words how much I enjoy hosting this program and what an enormous personal disappointment it is for me to consider losing it. My staff and I have worked unbelievably hard, and we are very proud of our contribution to the legacy of “The Tonight Show.” But I cannot participate in what I honestly believe is its destruction. Some people will make the argument that with DVRs and the Internet, a time slot doesn’t matter. But with the “Tonight Show,” I believe nothing could matter more.
There has been speculation about my going to another network but, to set the record straight, I currently have no other offer and honestly have no idea what happens next. My hope is that NBC and I can resolve this quickly so that my staff, crew, and I can do a show we can be proud of, for a company that values our work.

Lifetime and Eternity
Ok, I hate to admit it, but I watched that show on Lifetime called Drop Dead Diva, and I kinda liked it. It is about this cute model who dies, and when a gate keeper is trying to decide whether she should go to heaven or hell, the girl hits a button to make her go back to earth. The twist is that she returns into the body of an overweight, not as cute, girl, Jane. Now, she has to pretend that she is Jane, who is smart and a lawyer. It is actually a pretty cute and funny show. The actress who plays Jane does a really good job of trying to be this self-centered model trapped in a plus-sized woman’s body.
When the girl first dies on the show, the gate keeper looks on a computer and can’t determine where she should go because she has done just as many good things as bad things, so there is this straight line across the computer screen. I know I used to think that that’s how it worked: you do more good than bad, you go to heaven. The only problem with that is, who decides what’s good enough and what’s bad enough? If it’s us, well, we can always find someone worse than us. And if it’s God, well, we could never reach the perfection of God. Thankfully for us, that’s not how it works! We do not work for our spot in heaven. Grace is given to us by our Father.
In Bible, it says, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9).
So, what the show really should have looked like is this. The gatekeeper looks at the computer, and he doesn’t see “Was she good or bad?” He turns on the screen, and looks: “Did she love Jesus?”
Fan of Glee
So, it’s official… Glee is my new favorite show! The premiere was tonight, and although I had seen most of the scenes in the previews, I still thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s pretty funny, and I just love a show that I can sing along with.
Just wanted to also mention that I am also a fan of Kris Allen (American Idol finalist). I don’t think either he or Adam did a super stand-out performance, but I’ve been growing more and more fond of Kris throughout the season. He is very talented, and I don’t think I would enjoy any album that Adam put out. So, as I was waiting for Glee to begin I repeatedly texted my vote for Kris Allen. I looked later and counted 14 votes in all. I hope it helps!
Speaking of being a fan… I enjoyed tonight’s TV viewing under the gentle breeze of our lovely new ceiling fan. My wonderful hubby put it up for us. It was a lot of work for him, seeing as he is not an electrician, and I’m not a lot of help. We’ve never really loved the fan that was in the living room when we moved in, and after living here for a year, we finally decided to replace it. We updated it with a darker and perhaps more modern fan. I like it a lot. I think it looks fantastic, so thank you very much, handy hubby! We were going to move the old fan into the office, but that probably won’t happen now. Does anybody need a fan?

I have huge hopes for this show…hopes that it has no chance of meeting. I mean like Arrested Development type hope. Unfair much Chad?
Dang, I love musicals…what is wrong with me? I also think I love Journey. And Milkshakes…and burritos.

Our favorite contestant on American Idol this season is Danny Gokey. He is really good and seems like a nice guy. We really liked his best friend, Jamar, too, but were shocked when they didn’t send him through to be on the show. It was ridiculous! Nevertheless, Danny is still in it, and hopefully when he wins he will have Jamar open for him.
