Poppy- 5 Months Old

Poppy5Month1

Poppy is 5 months old today! She…

  • weighs about 16.4 pounds
  • wears size 6 months clothes
  • wears size 2 diapers
  • isn’t sleeping through the night again yet
  • is getting her first tooth
  • laughs and smiles all the time
  • had to stop eating cereal because it hurt her tummy
  • is starting baby food- tried sweet potatoes yesterday
  • is sitting up on her own a little
  • likes: chewing on her hands, toys that make rustling noises, holding onto things, looking at the tv
  • dislikes: getting her face wiped

During this month’s “photo shoot,” I mentioned to Chad that Poppy looked like she could just fall right out of the chair. Seconds later, she did just that- head first toward the ground. Fortunately, I caught her… by her face.

Poppy- 4 Months Old

Poppy is 4 months old today! She…

  • weighs about 15.5 pounds
  • wears size 6 months clothes, but I’m still squeezing her into some 3 months
  • wears size 2 diapers
  • decided to stop sleeping through the night the day before I went back to work
  • bats at objects
  • laughs on occasion
  • can hold her head up and sit in a bumbo
  • still will not take a pacifier very much
  • likes: grabbing and holding onto toys and rattles, being bounced in the air, playing peek-a-boo
  • dislikes: gas, being in unfamiliar places

Poor Poppy has had to get used to being away from her mommy this past month. We put her in childcare at church for the first time, she started going to daycare at PELC, and Mimi and Pappy even watched her for a couple days while Daddy was out of town. She is in good hands, I know, but I’m sure she’d like to go back to the old days where Mommy held her all the time. Yeah, she’d like that.

Poppy- 3 Months Old

Poppy is 3 months old today! She…

  • weighs about 13.8 pounds
  • wears size 3 months clothes
  • wears size 2 diapers
  • sleeps through the night
  • has found her hands
  • coos and smiles
  • can hold her head up really well
  • has had her first illness (RSV)
  • still will not take a pacifier very much
  • likes: riding in the car, being patted on the back or bottom, baths
  • dislikes: saline and the nasal aspirator

Poppy- 2 Months Old

Poppy is 2 months old today! She…

  • weighs about 12.2 pounds
  • wears size 3 months clothes
  • wears size 1 diapers
  • follows people with her eyes
  • sucks on her hand
  • likes: sitting upright, looking at Mommy, white noise, her mobile, rattles, being held
  • dislikes: gas, reflux

She plans to spend the day celebrating at Piper’s birthday party.

Poppy- 1 Month Old

Poppy is 1 month old today! She

  • weighs about 11.2 pounds
  • wears newborn size clothes
  • wears size 1 diapers
  • has a full head of hair
  • has blue eyes
  • still has her umbilical cord stump
  • sleeps in the newborn napper in the Pack-n-Play
  • likes: being warm, riding in the car, looking around, holding things
  • dislikes: sponge baths, gas, getting her nose sucked

We noticed a mark on Poppy’s finger while in the hospital, and after we brought it to the attention of our pediatrician, she checked it out and assured us it was just a birthmark. Just last week, Chad noticed that it was no longer there. Poppy sucks on her fingers sometimes, so we conclude that it must have been what one of the nursery nurses thought was a sucking blister caused by her sucking her finger in utero.

Piper- 23 Months Old

Piper turns 23 months old today.
She…

  • weighs about 32.8 pounds
  • wears size 6 diapers
  • wears mostly size 24 months/ 2T clothes (but she’s been wearing some 3T too)
  • wears size 8 shoes
  • talks a lot and makes lots of observations like “Poppy crying,” “Mommy talking”
  • can recognize shapes and attempts to draw them
  • can count to 13
  • likes: Poppy, reading books, singing songs, swinging, playing hide-and-seek, flashcards, watching football- it’s the only TV she’s allowed to watch (guess who’s idea that is)
  • dislikes: when animals get too close to her

Piper has recently learned to play hide-and-seek, but she’s not very good at it. Not surprising since she is not even 2 yet, but she tries. She will cover her eyes, count, and then go hide. She also likes someone to hide with her, so if Chad is not home, then she and I have to hide and wait for Poppy to come find us.

Piper- 22 Months Old

Piper turns 22 months old today.
She…

  • weighs about 32 pounds
  • wears size 6 diapers
  • wears mostly size 24 months / 2T clothes
  • wears size 8 shoes
  • can count 1 to 10 missing a few numbers here and there
  • can say the alphabet, but not very well
  • car seat has moved behind the driver to make way for Poppy
  • getting very picky about what she eats
  • likes: cleaning, yogurt, number flash cards, peanut butter, medicine
  • dislikes: not being picked up when she asks, new teeth

Piper’s back molars are coming in  and this has caused her to be extra fussy. This plays itself out at school by kids crowding her and not backing off so she starts to “explore them with her mouth” (bite).

Piper- 21 Months Old

Piper turns 21 months old today.
She…

  • weighs about 31.5 pounds
  • wears size 5 diapers, but size 6 are coming
  • wears mostly size 24 months clothes
  • wears size 8 shoes
  • talks a lot and uses short sentences like ” I drop it” and “Mommy get it”
  • says “I luh boo” (I love you) without being prompted
  • actually colors with crayons, etc. herself
  • has started back to school as an orange tiger
  • sings songs, but skips words
  • likes: dancing, listening to songs, climbing, splashing, buckling her car seat, putting on shoes (it doesn’t matter if they are hers), bubble baths
  • dislikes: not getting to put on her own shoes or shorts.

Piper is using common phrases, but she sometimes mixes them up. Recently, she passed gas and said, “you’re welcome.”
